I was born in the Bronx. New York City and grew up in Staten Island. My father sold drugs, and prostituted women were in and out of our home. They turned tricks upstairs. My father eventually went to prison. My mother was stabbed seven times, I heard it happen. My sisters and I had to go to foster care. I was 4 years old and heard her being raped almost every night by the foster father in the next room. There was a huge case and she was removed. With so much abuse and violence I ended up in a gang and as a young teen, drugs, guns, women and prostitution was all around me. They came for me and I didn't realize I had a choice. Getting a human trafficking charge was not in my plans for life. I had dreams a child. But as Dr.Bello, said, children often become what they see and so I have to choose. I can't change my past, but I can change my future.
I once was walking in total darkness. My hope is to share why and how the light is so much better. It's not a pretty story but it's the truth.
My face is scarred on the right side, due to a very. negative life, style. The car flipped over several times and I almost died. Sometimes, I don't know why my life was spared. Surgery to my skull.
I don't know know how they got me out of this.
Dr. Bello and I talking about my life. I was court ordered post incarceration to the RJEDE Program. Restorative Justice End Demand Education. The one in Miami/Dade created by Dr. Brook Bello. It changed how I saw the gang violence and human trafficking I was involved in with adult women. I couldn't believe how much it taught about the pain I caused and also the pain I grew up in that became normalized.
